DDG has opened up about his current relationship with Halle Bailey following their breakup.

In the days after their split, the rapper shared his thoughts on how dating the ‘Little Mermaid’ actress, 24, influenced public perception of him.

“I personally think people just pick on me,” DDG said during the Sunday, Oct. 6, episode of his No Ordinary Podcast. “That’s really what it is.”

He explained further, saying, “People specifically target me because, for a long time, they felt like I didn’t belong in the music industry. Especially being with Halle, who’s a superstar—she’s the greatest. Being around her, I feel like it made a lot of people side-eye me because they already had an image of her in their minds, and I didn’t fit that.”

Despite the challenges, DDG (real name Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr.) expressed that everything was “cool” because he knew there was a reason why Bailey stayed with him and why they had a child together, referring to their 10-month-old son, Halo.

“There’s a reason why all of this happened,” he said. “Me and Halle are forever family, forever.”

DDG also addressed his critics, urging them to consider how their comments could affect their family, particularly their son. “I feel like people should remember that when they talk about us. You’re talking about our family. You need to relax,” he said. “People don’t realize that if I’m hurting, it could hurt my baby, the one you all love so much.”

He added, “I feel like a lot of people forget that.”

DDG first announced the breakup on his Instagram Stories on Thursday, Oct. 3, writing, “Dear friends and supporters, after much reflection and heartfelt conversations, Halle and I have decided to go our separate ways. The decision was not easy, but we believe it’s the best path forward for both of us. I cherish the time we’ve spent together and the love we shared.”

He continued, “Despite the changes in our relationship, our love for each other remains deep and true. We are still best friends and adore each other.”

The couple first sparked dating rumors in January 2022 when they were seen together at Usher’s Las Vegas residency. DDG confirmed their relationship in March 2022 with a birthday post for Bailey. In November 2023, rumors of Bailey’s pregnancy began circulating, and the couple welcomed their son, Halo, in December.

“Even though we’re a few days into the new year, the greatest thing 2023 brought me was my son,” Bailey wrote when she publicly announced Halo’s birth. “Welcome to the world, my Halo ????????????✨.”
