A trial date has been set for Sean “Diddy” Combs following his court appearance on Tuesday.
The American rapper appeared before Judge Arun Subramanian on October 10, and after the status hearing, the judge scheduled the trial to begin on May 5, 2025. A follow-up conference is set for December, and both parties have until February to submit any motions.
A day before the hearing, Diddy’s lawyers filed a new appeal seeking bail, arguing that concerns about him “intimidating” witnesses were “unfounded.” The appeal, filed on October 9, claimed that Judge Carter’s previous denial of bail was based on “speculation” rather than evidence that Diddy would interfere with the criminal investigation.
His legal team, Alexandra A.E. Shapiro and Jason A. Driscoll, argued that Diddy’s voluntary travel to New York to face the charges, coupled with their proposed monitoring plan (including no access to phones, internet, and video surveillance), supported his release. They emphasized that their client is “presumed innocent.”
“He took extraordinary steps to show that he intends to face and contest the charges, not flee,” the filing stated. “He presented a bail package that would prevent him from posing a danger to anyone or contacting witnesses.”
However, the appeal was unsuccessful, as Judge Subramanian ruled during the October 10 hearing that Diddy will remain in custody.
The 54-year-old rapper, arrested at a New York City hotel on September 16, faces charges of racketeering, sex trafficking, and using transportation to engage in prostitution. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Diddy’s attorney, Mark Agnifilo, urged the public to reserve judgment after his arrest, stating, “These are the actions of an innocent man with nothing to hide. He looks forward to clearing his name in court.”
As of now, Diddy will remain in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn until his trial on May 5, 2025.
