Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland took center stage during Kamala Harris’ rally in Houston on Friday, October, 25. The pair delivered speeches urging eligible voters to cast their ballots for the Democratic presidential candidate.
But one notable absentee at the event was their Destiny’s Child bandmate, Michelle Williams. During a recent appearance on the Sherri show, Williams, 45, said she had actually wanted to attend the event with her besties, but she couldn’t because of her acting engagements in the Broadway musical, Death Becomes Her, Billboard reported.
“I was so happy [for Beyonce and Kelly],” Williams told Sherri on Tuesday. “It was the first time that I have not been able to be in person for something that I wanted to be at.” She also noted that “it’s a sacrifice that we make [being] on Broadway.”
Despite her absence, the Soldier singer said she later watched the rally. She also praised how Beyoncé and Kelly “represented and held me down in their own way.”
Beyoncé and Kelly are occasionally spotted in public without Williams, leading people to sometimes ask why she’s not with them. Williams, however, explained it’s because of proximity issues.
“They live in L.A. and I’m in Atlanta,” Williams said. “And folks will see them out or paparazzi will get them at dinner and they like, ‘Where’s Michelle?’ I’m like ‘Y’all, we ain’t together all time time!’”
Williams also emphasized that she and her two besties “are together more than people think.”
Beyoncé in her speech at the rally to endorse Harris told the crowd that she had come to the event—which centered on reproductive freedom—as a “mother,” not as a “celebrity” or “politician.”
“A mother who cares deeply about the world my children and all of our children live in, a world where we have the freedom to control our bodies, a world where we’re not divided,” the Grammy winner explained.
Beyoncé in her speech also credited Harris for taking a stance as a “woman who’s been pushing for what this country really needs right now, unity,” the Independent reported. The Freedom singer also touched on motherhood and how that had influenced her decision to throw her weight behind Harris.
“Our past, our present, our future, merge to meet us here. Imagine our daughters growing up, seeing what’s possible with no ceilings, no limitations,” she said. “We must vote, and we need you.”
