Equatorial Guinea’s Vice President, Teodoro Obiang Mangue, has issued a stern warning to public officials about office sex, saying that authorities will take “severe measures” against those caught in that act.

Per BBC, Mangue’s warning came amid the circulation of viral videos showing Baltasar Ebang Engonga – a senior-ranking civil servant – and several women seemingly having sex in his office. Some of the women were reported to be married to other senior officials.

Engonga, who leads Equatorial Guinea’s National Financial Investigation Agency, is said to be related to the president of the Central African nation. Reports state that Engonga goes by the nickname “Bello”, which means “beautiful” in Spanish, because of his handsomeness.

Obiang said office sex was a “flagrant violation of the code of conduct” and made it clear that authorities would suspend officials caught committing that act. To tackle such “indecent and illicit acts,” the vice president has since ordered surveillance cameras to be fixed in court and ministry buildings.

The vice president’s office in a statement said that the “image of the country” had been “denigrated” because of the circulation of the sexually explicit videos, explaining that it was the reason they issued the directive.

The office said it had recommended that an investigation be launched, BBC reported. State television TVGE also reported that the videos were circulated following Engonga’s arrest in connection with an unrelated corruption case.

Obiang ultimately directed telecoms companies to curtail the circulation of “pornographic videos” that were “flooding” social media. AFP news agency reported that people in the Central African nation said image downloads and internet traffic had been negatively impacted.

Equatorial Guinea’s chief prosecutor, Anatolio Nzang Nguema, in an interview with state TV, said that Engonga would be charged with breaching “public health” if it comes out that he has been “infected with a sexually transmitted disease.”
