Adoption was the next best option for Mackenzie and Lovensky Levasseur after years of infertility and one devastating miscarriage in 2017. The Levasseurs described how they went from years of infertility problems to having four sons in a few months.
Mackenzie, 31, told Today, “We wanted to be parents so badly. We had all this space and so much love to give, but it just wasn’t happening for us.”
In a TikTok that has gone viral and received over 3 million views, the couple explained their decision to open their hearts and home to foster children. They had no idea how their choice would alter their lives.
A few days after the Levasseurs obtained their foster care license on April 1, 2023, they received an unexpected call regarding newborn triplet boys in need of a home. Despite her initial reservations, Mackenzie felt confident in their decision.
She told People, “We just felt really strongly that it was our calling.”
On April 11, the couple brought two of the triplets home, and a week later, after spending more time in the hospital, the third joined them.
However, Mackenzie found out she was pregnant just three days after bringing the first two boys home.
She recounted, “You feel all of it like an absolute rush of emotion. You’re terrified because you’re like, ‘How are we going to do this?’ But you have this overwhelming excitement too.”
It was not easy navigating the difficulties of caring for newborn triplets during a challenging first trimester of pregnancy. However, the couple welcomed Lennox, a healthy baby boy, in December 2023.
Although it’s common wisdom in foster care to “not get too attached,” Mackenzie feels it’s important to build solid relationships. “That’s why you do foster care… they need you to love them like that,” she emphasized.
The couple chose to adopt the triplets — Leonardo, Lazarus, and Legend — six months after fostering them.
With the triplets only eight months older than their younger brother, the Levasseurs are now a contented family of six.
Although living with four sons of similar ages can be stressful, Mackenzie acknowledged that it is generally full of love and happiness.
She said, “There are a lot of days where we just look at each other and we’re like, ‘You just have to embrace the crazy a little.’ If you can sit back and just remember that you prayed for this, you know that you wanted this, then all of the crazy is just totally worth it.”
Their first TikTok video has inspired many people to consider adoption.
She reminds everyone that there are other ways to help foster families and underprivileged kids, even if they are unable to open their homes, and she pushes prospective foster parents to talk to those who are already fostering.
Mackenzie advised, “It is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, but it has been absolutely the most rewarding.”
