Jahniya Imani Meda, 25, who was arrested for allegedly shooting another woman in Miami Gardens, said she acted in self-defense.
A ShotSpotter gunshot detection alert prompted officers to respond to the area of Northwest 30th Avenue and Northwest 184th Street just before 10 a.m. on Saturday, according to an arrest report obtained by NBC Miami.
Authorities soon discovered a woman inside a Nissan Altima in Walt Frazer Park, located at 3201 Northwest 185th Street, who had been shot.
The victim was brought to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, however, she was left with gunshot wounds to the “buttocks and back area,” per Local News 10.

Investigators arrested Meda after finding two used bullets on the front porch of a house at 3001 Northwest 184th Street.
When detectives arrived at the hospital and spoke with the victim, she told them that she was driving in Miami Gardens when she saw her 26-year-old boyfriend’s car parked at 3001 Northwest 184th Street. She then got out and went to the door, “knowing her boyfriend was inside with another female,” according to the report.
According to the report, she knocked on the door and demanded her boyfriend to come outside. Meda answered the door, stepped onto the porch, and fired two rounds while shouting, “Get from my house.”
A Ring camera recorded the incident. The victim’s boyfriend was brought in for interrogation after officers noticed him escaping in a Mercedes-Benz, according to the report.
The boyfriend told investigators he was in the bedroom at Meda’s home when there was a knock at the front door, the report said. He said Meda went to the door, and moments later he heard gunshots.
Meda told investigators she was in her home when a female came to her front door and started banging on the door and saying she was going to “beat her ass,” the report said.
She also said she had recognized the female from a prior incident involving the same boyfriend. Meda allegedly confessed to the shooting and was charged with attempted murder.
In a statement, Miami Gardens Police said Meda allegedly shot at the victim who had gone to Meda’s house “with the intent to engage in a physical altercation.”
According to prosecutors, the victim was attempting to enter Meda’s house on the day of the incident. According to Meda’s defense team, she exercised her right to defense.
However, the judge denied Meda’s bond and ordered her not to contact the victim.
As of Monday, she was being held without bond at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
