During Monday’s episode of Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast, Cardi B opened up about how her marriage to Offset hit the rocks, and her emotions during that period.
Per PEOPLE, the Am I the Drama? rapper stated that she “felt the love dying” at a certain point in their marriage. “From my end, from his end … I was very lonely because I chose to be lonely,” Cardi, whose real name is Belcalis Almánzar, revealed.
As previously reported by Face2Face Africa, Cardi B, 32, and Offset, 33, became romantically involved in 2017, before getting engaged and secretly marrying that same year. The former couple, who had a tumultuous relationship, share two daughters and a son.

Cardi filed for her first divorce in September 2020 over allegations of Offset cheating on her. The former couple, however, later patched things up and called off their divorce. Cardi then filed for her second divorce in July 2024.
“It took months for the heart to say, ‘You’re done.’ Instead of my mouth and my brain,” Cardi stated. “My heart had to be like, ‘You’re done.’ Because you could say it and you could take actions but even if you take actions, if you’re not done you’re not done.”
The I Like It rapper also revealed that she even turned to singer Shakira for advice while the pair collaborated on their Puntería song in 2023. Cardi announced her split from Offset, born Kiari Kendrell Cephus, that year. Shakira and her ex-boyfriend, Gerard Piqué, had also ended their relationship the year before amid allegations that the former football player repeatedly cheated on her.
“Around that time I was working with Shakira and I was like, how the f— did you over overcame this? Like, how did you overcame this?” Cardi revealed. “And [she’s] like, ‘It’s going to happen.’ And [I’m] like, ‘It will never happen.’ And it happened. It took some crying, it took some thoughts, scary thoughts.”
After filing for her second divorce, Cardi initially clapped back at critics who suggested that Offset wasn’t in their kids’ lives and he was a deadbeat dad. But their relationship later turned sour as they started trading jabs on social media.
Despite their differences, Cardi, in a September interview with Gayle King on CBS Mornings, stated that she harbors no hatred in her “heart anymore.”
“I just wish he was a better person, but it is what it is. Be a better person for your kids,” the 32-year-old said about her estranged husband. “I think he has some type of hate in his heart right now… I don’t know how long that’s gonna take for him but that’s always been my wish.”
