A driver accused of killing Marcus Fakana, the British teenager who was released from a Dubai jail in July 2025 after being convicted of having consensual sex with a 17-year-old girl, has admitted to the crime.
Per BBC, the fatal incident occurred in Tottenham, north London, on October 3, 2025. Fakana, 19, was a passenger in a truck when 20-year-old Marwaan Mohamed Huseen crashed a BMW into it. Huseen had engaged Metropolitan Police officers in a pursuit at the time of the fatal crash.
In the aftermath of the incident, the Met Police said that they tried to pull a car over, but they had to abandon a subsequent pursuit after 60 seconds because they could not keep up with the chase. The vehicle in question was said to have crashed into a truck when it was later found. Another individual in the truck also suffered serious injuries.
Huseen entered a guilty plea to causing Fakana’s death by dangerous driving during his court appearance on Friday, January 23. The 20-year-old also pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving to another passenger in the BMW. Besides that, Huseen additionally admitted to driving without insurance or a license.

Fakana died just three months after Dubai’s ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, reportedly granted him a royal pardon, facilitating his eventual return to the United Kingdom.
As previously reported by Face2Face Africa, Fakana was vacationing with his parents in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2024 when he and the then-17-year-old girl, who is also British, had consensual sex, BBC reported. Though their relationship would be legal in the United Kingdom, the age of consent in the UAE is 18.
Fakana was arrested and convicted in December 2024 after the girl’s mother discovered his conversations and photos with her daughter and alerted Dubai police. That was after the girl returned to the United Kingdom.
Detained in Dubai, which is a campaign group, advocated for Fakana’s release. The chief executive of the campaign group, Radha Sterling, said that hearing about Fakana’s death left her “heartbroken.”
“It’s sad that of all of 2025, he was only free for the three months from the 3rd of July until the 3rd of October,” she added.
Huseen continues to remain in custody, and his sentencing date is going to be scheduled during a February 27 hearing.
