Over the last three weeks, Zimbabwe has experienced some major political events that will forever remain etched in the annals of history. After ruling the Southern African country for 37 years, 93-year-old President Robert Mugabe finally retired on November 21.

His retirement, which followed a seemingly bloodless military coup a week earlier, sparked nationwide jubilations as Zimbabweans celebrated the dawn of a new era. The expressive celebrations were merited given the fact that Mugabe had vowed to rule over Zimbabwe even from the grave.

His ouster has sent shockwaves across Africa, with some pundits suggesting that it could be the start of a new revolt against African leaders who have overstayed their mandate.
