Embattled Somalia speaker, Mohamed Osman Jawari,  resigns hours before a planned motion of no-confidence against him.

The news was broken on Twitter by Abdurahman Hosh Jibril, Lawyer and the current minister of Constitutional Affairs of The Federal Government of Somalia.

Jawari, who has held the position since 2012, had been accused of violating the constitution and blocking parliament procedures, forcing some Federal legislators to table an impeachment motion against him in March.

As at last week, Jawari had rejected the call to resign and had even created a committee to discuss the political crisis, according to Garowe Online.

Had the no-confidence motion proceeded, the MPs needed a two-thirds majority to oust him as per the constitution.

Responding to the development, Dahir Amin Jesow a legislator told Reuters that they accept and welcome Jarowe’s resignation.

“We were in the parliament house this morning ready for the motion against the speaker. Then the deputy speaker came in and read a resignation letter from the speaker.  We applauded and his resignation was accepted as per the constitution. That is the end of the political crisis,” he said.
