Ghana’s former vice president dies after collapsing during workout session

Ghanaians have expressed shock and sadness over the passing away of the country’s former Vice President, Kwesi Amissah-Arthur on Friday.

Sources close to the late Amissah-Arthur have told local media that he died at the country’s 37 Military Hospital after collapsing at an Airforce Gym on Friday morning during a workout session.

Amissah-Arthur, before becoming the vice president in 2012, was the Governor of Ghana’s Central Bank from 2009 and 2012.

He had before served as a special assistant to the Secretary of Finance and Economic Planning, Kwesi Botchwey under the Provisional National Defense Council (PNDC) government from 1983 to 1986.

The late Veep also worked as the Deputy Finance Minister under the country’s Fourth Republic’s first government from April 1993 to March 1997.
