DR Congo President Joseph Kabila has announced that he will not run for a third term.
The decision was made after a long deliberation with party members in Kinshasa.
Kabila has also endorsed Ramazani Shadary as the Presidential candidate for his party FCC.

Shadary served as the interior minister under Kabila’s government.
He is set to face former warlord Jean Pierre Bemba and Vital Kamerhe, who have so far submitted their presidency papers to the election commission.
Former Katanga governor Moise Katumbi has yet to submit his papers as he had been blocked from entering the country.
Kabila took office in 2001 after the death of his father President Laurent-Desire Kabila. He was supposed to leave office in December 2016 after the end of his second and final term, but elections were postponed over lack of resources to conduct a free, fair and credible poll. The country had descended into chaos after his refusal to step down.
