After a remarkable display of intelligence and creativity, the Nigerian delegation currently participating at the Global Cyberlympics 2018 has made it to the finals.

The team, Naija Cybersec Force emerged eighth in the nomination rounds of the international hacking Olympics, news site The Guardian Nigeria reports.

After the 12-hour competition that had over 134 teams from across the world, the Naija Cybersec Force team became the only African team in the top ten category.

Australia had the biggest wins with 6 teams, Europe followed suit with two wins and North America completed the list of qualifiers.

The Nigerian team also came out winners in the African regional contest after beating 24 teams that competed in Africa.

The finals of the competition will be held in Atlanta, Georgia on September 13 this year.

Global CyberLympics is an international online cybersecurity competition, dedicated to finding the top computer network defense teams.

The event tests the skills of information assurance professionals in teams of 4 to 6 people in the areas of ethical hacking, computer network defense and computer forensics.

Each round serves as an elimination round until only winning teams remain. The top winning teams from every continent get invited to play the game live in person at the world finals.

Global CyberLympics, on its website, says it “aspires to create an opportunity for ethical hacking to be accepted, practised and demonstrated without any discrimination, across all geographical boundaries – for the purpose of understanding what it takes to protect and secure critical information and assets.”

Here’s how people are reacting to the Nigerian team’s qualification:
