As more people are becoming more connected so do the issues that affect us as a world, according to the recently released Human Development Index (HDI) for 2018.

The annual report by the United Nations Development Programme usually measures a number of factors to give a comprehensive overview of development. Thus, instead of focusing on economic growth, it looks at other factors such as health and life expectancy, education and standard of living.

According to the report, a number of challenges still exist despite the progress that has been seen in the world. Issues such as poverty and exclusion, inequality and conflict, and climate change are among the top issues to be addressed.

According to the UNDP administrator, Achim Steiner, these issues can only be addressed by focusing on both the local and global context.

The report sampled 189 countries and territories, rating them on how they performed in the three main categories.

Here is how Africa’s top 10 countries fared.
