3 most threatened forests in Africa

Bridget Boakye March 21, 2018

Forests cover more than 30% of the world’s land and contain more than 60,000 tree species. Each year, more than 13 million hectares (32 million acres) of forests are lost. The figure is especially acute in Africa where rainforests are being cleared at 2% a year, and at over 5% a year in certain areas, endangering plants, wildlife, and the humans who depend on them.

In celebration of the International Day of Forests, an effort by the U.N. to celebrate and protect woodlands and trees around the world, we look at the three most threatened forests in Africa, as reported by the World Wildlife Fund.
