Just like online banking and credit card accounts, social media has become an avenue for identity theft and online crime. Social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and so on are increasingly being targeted by cybercriminals who acquire one’s personal details online for fraudulent purposes.

The worrying trend is some data firms are illegally harvesting data from profiles of people in social media in an attempt to influence public opinion. To still enjoy the benefits of social media without falling victim to these kinds of fraud, here are some simple tips to adopt.
