San Francisco 49ers star Trent Williams and his wife, Sondra, have shared heartbreaking news on the death of their newly born son.

In an emotional statement on Instagram on Monday, Sondra revealed that she had delivered their baby, Trenton O’Brien Williams Jr., on November 24 at 35 weeks.

“My Forever Angel, Trenton O’Brien Williams Jr.,” she said. “It’s been extremely hard trying to process the saddest hello and goodbye that I’ve ever had to endure.”

Williams’ wife described the delivery as difficult and said she tried her very best to make it work. “Last Sunday night on 11/24/24, I welcomed your lifeless 4lb 8oz, 18.5in long little body at 11:38 pm. At only 35 weeks, your impactful and quick arrival didn’t even give mommy time to get an epidural. As much as I tried to prepare myself for our meeting, I wasn’t prepared, nor would I ever be.”

She also shared that the couple were initially expecting twins yet one of the babies was lost earlier in her pregnancy.

According to reports, Trenton Jr. had been diagnosed with Trisomy 13, which is a rare genetic condition.

“After losing your twin early in the pregnancy, I prayed and hoped that your diagnosis of Trisomy 13 wasn’t true and wouldn’t be the fate of my long-awaited beautiful Son-shine,” Sondra wrote. “My firstborn and only son, I’ve always wanted you, but God wanted and needed you more.”

For Sondra, it is a tough moment of deep sorrow after returning home without her baby. “Being home without you in my arms has been quite an adjustment,” she wrote. “Knowing I will never be able to watch you grow older alongside your sisters has my eyes filled with tears. I can’t even begin to describe how I felt leaving the hospital without you.”

Trent Williams and his wife have three daughters and had been preparing for a family of six before this devastating loss.

The 36-year-old was absent against the Buffalo Bills last Sunday due to an ankle injury but will be aiming to bounce back stronger to help his team for the rest of the season.

Williams began his NFL career in 2010 with the Washington Commanders before joining the 49ers in 2019.

The 49ers take on the Chicago Bears this Sunday in California. Though Williams is grieving with his family, he will look to support his team as the season progresses.
