Amal Habani
With the titles of journalist and activist under her belt, Habani has no problem voicing her concerns with the Sudanese society. Because she decided to take a stand against the plight of women in her native land, she’s been jailed, fired, and discriminated against. In 2008 she and her colleagues founded the organization, No to Women’s Oppression Initiative.
Habani’s voice is especially pertinent due to Sudan’s strict policies against freedom of speech. According to Africa News; the country ranks 174 out of 180 in terms of press freedom.
