Serengeti National Park, Tanzania
Located in northern Tanzania, the Serengeti National Park is famous for its annual wildebeest migration. The migration involves 1.5 million white bearded wildebeests and 250,000 zebras traversing miles of savanna from Maasai Mara National Park in Kenya in search of greener pastures.
The Park covers about 5,700 square miles and receives approximately 350,000 visitors per year. The name Serengeti comes from the word siringet, which means “the place where the land runs on forever.”
Apart from wildebeest and zebras, the Serengeti is also home to the Big Five, including lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, black rhinos, and cheetahs. The best time to visit the park is between May and July during the wildebeest migration.
