Kamau Brathwaite
Kamau Brathwaite is not only known in the island of Barbados, but is also considered as one of the finest and best writers from the Caribbean. Born in 1930, the poet and academic is one of the most read poets from the Caribbean and father of the artistic movement in his home country after co-founding the Caribbean Artistic Movement (CAM). The multiple award-winning writer holds a PhD after specialising in Black cultural life both in Africa and throughout the African diaspora from the University of Sussex and went on to become a professor at New York University. Kamau worked briefly in Ghana which was then the Gold Coast as an Education Officer at the Ministry of Education.
