Amon N’ Douffou V, King of the Kingdom of Sanwi, Ivory Coast

The monarch of the Sanwi kingdom in Ivory Coast, Cote d’Ivoire, is Amon N’Douffou V. He succeeded his late father, Amon N’Douffou IV, on the throne in 1999. In the year 1740, the Kingdom of Sanwi was founded by Ghanaian immigrants, according to some traditions, but it quickly became a protectorate of France.

Amon N’Douffou V is renowned for his work in promoting and protecting the Sanwi people’s cultural heritage. In addition to encouraging education and economic growth in the area, he has tried to revitalize ancient ceremonies and customs and is regarded as a significant and powerful person in Ivory Coast; particularly in the region where the Kingdom of Sanwi is situated in the southeast of the nation.
