She was thrust into the limelight after her husband, Uhuru Kenyatta was inaugurated as the president of Kenya in 2013. Although some political analysts describe her as reserved and somewhat shy, Margaret Kenyatta is well-respected for her engagement in efforts to reduce child-maternal mortality – a move that earned her recognition as the 2014 UN Person of the Year.
