Ghanaian-born British editor and stylist Edward Kobina Enninful’s OBE most recent project from Edward Enninful’s ambitious tiny media empire is a new magazine called 72.
The British editor’s new business endeavor appears to be a jab at Condé Nast, as well as his mentor and previous employer Anna Wintour.
The announcement, which was made on Instagram to announce the release of a glossy new magazine, comes a year after the renowned British editor and stylist resigned from his positions as editor-in-chief of British Vogue and European editorial director of Vogue in March 2024 after four and six years, respectively.
“I’ve been waiting a while to announce this to my loyal followers,” he wrote, in the manner of someone who had been contractually prevented from doing so, doubtless due to some standard non-compete clause in his contract with Vogue’s publisher, Conde Nast. “EE72 magazine and platform coming in September.”
First announced in February when Enninful announced the establishment of EE72, a worldwide media and entertainment firm, the magazine, titled 72, is the most recent project to come out of his ambitious new micro media empire.
“I started my career believing in the power of storytelling and how storytelling could change the world we live in,” he said in a Reel posted to his 1.6 million Instagram followers.
“From i:D to Italian Vogue, Japanese Vogue, American Vogue, and British Vogue, all this has led to this moment, to creating this platform that is to connect people through creativity.”
Enninful’s entry into the print medium is predictable and well-timed. With this new venture, Edward has the liberty to feature whoever he wants to.
In a time where screens, algorithms, and fleeting content rule the day, magazines are now regarded as a pleasant diversion from mindless scrolling.
Enninful previously served as Condé Nast’s European editorial director and as British Vogue’s editor-in-chief.
In 2016, he received his OBE for his contributions to diversity in the design business.
