Vehicle manufacturer Ford is reportedly recalling about 274,000 of its Expedition and Lincoln-branded Navigator Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) across the United States.
This, according to officials, was due to an issue that may cause “a loss of brake function while driving, increasing crash risks.”

Sources say the recall covers 223,315 Expeditions and 50,474 Navigators manufactured between 2022 and 2024; however, only 1% of the vehicles are believed to have the defect.
Other details indicate that the front brake lines in the vehicles that are being recalled “may be in contact with their engine air cleaner outlet pipe due to a potential installation defect,” which can either result in a brake fluid leak or a loss of brake function.

The company, however, noted that it was not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the recall, though there have been some reports of front brake line leaks as of April 17.
Officials say Ford and Lincoln dealers will inspect the front brake line of impacted vehicles and make the necessary replacement free of charge. The scheduled fixes are expected to begin as soon as possible.

Records indicate that Ford sold 208,675 vehicles in the United States last month, representing a 16% increase from the same period last year. Ford’s gas-powered trucks and SUVs were said to have accounted for the growth.
Electrified vehicle sales, including EVs and hybrids, rose 8.4%, while trucks accounted for over half of Ford’s sales last month, with sales up 19% to 116,955 units. The company also sold another nearly 87,000 SUVs, up 13.4% from April 2024.

The growth was said to be a result of a new promotion launched in early April. The company’s chief executive officer, Jim Farley, told outlets that the campaign dubbed “From America, For America,” initially planned to end June 2, would continue through July 4.
