Award yourself a salary increase
There is nothing as powerful as the ability to increase your salary on a whim. And that’s exactly what Robert Mugabe did in 1999.
He awarded himself a 159 per cent pay increase in a country suffering poverty and strife. It was not the first or the last pay hike but one of the most significant in his rule.
A few months after the salary hike, Mugabe became the winner of a lottery, run by the state-owned bank. He took home Z$100,000 (then $2600).
