One of the smallest countries in Africa, Burundi has an equatorial climate. Gaining independence in 1962, the country has had a slow growth due to several economic factors caused by political events in the country.
After independence, Burundi initially had a monarchy, however, a series of assassinations, coups and a general climate of regional instability culminated in the establishment of a republic and one-party state in 1966.
With just 13% of the population living in urban areas, Burundi is one of the most exciting countries to visit as they have an exciting array of tourist destinations.
According to reports, it has a population density of around 315 people per square kilometre (753 per sq mi) and it is the second highest country in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Despite the challenges faced by Burundi, these are some of the amazing places Burundi has to offer.
