Nguni Stickfighting

This sporting activity originates from the south of Africa and is locally known as Nguni. This activity was a favourite pass time for herdsmen and the youth. The game is a battle of sticks played by two people at a time. Participants can group themselves and take turns till a group emerges as the winner. The game could last for more than 5 hours but is very interesting and spectacular to watch. Opponents are advised to prevent hurting each other due to the fact that the game could get very bloody. The game has since been banned in various parts of southern Africa but is still played in rural areas. Participants are trained and chosen and spectators sit round to watch in amusement.
