Kiffa Beads of Mauritania
These are made with ground glass and a binder which is mostly saliva. Named after the town of Kiffa in Mauritania, these age-old beads are characterized by unique designs and a triangular shaped pendant which is usually bigger than the regular beads. The ancient ones are more smooth and less angular as compared to the recent ones. Bead makers have tried to duplicate the ancient designs but to no avail.
