5. University of Ghana: Ghana’s premier university is also the oldest and largest of all universities in Ghana. Founded in 1948 as the University College of the Gold Coast, the University can now boast of over 50,000 students. Its curriculum emphasizes the social sciences, medicine, law, technology-based and vocational courses; most recently, postgraduate training exercises have been added. The University of Ghana is most adored for its influential list of alumni, including world-acclaimed investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, former BBC television news anchor Komla Dumor (of late), Vice-President of the International Criminal Court Akua Kuenyehia and even the sitting Ghanaian president John Dramani Mahama.
