On Wednesday, BET announced its nominees for the 2014 awards show, and some of Africa’s top musical artists made the list.

Making it in the International Africa category is Nigeria’s Davido, Ghana’s Sarkodie, Nigeria’s Tiwa Savage (pictured top), South Africa’s Mafikozolo, Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz, and Togo’s Toofan. Lupita Nyong’o, Idris Elba (pictured at right), and Chiwetel Ejiofor also made it in the film category.

“This year’s nominees represent the best of the culture,” says Stephen Hill, BET’s President of Music Programming and Specials via a press release. “It’s great to see our talented new artist’s right alongside our more beloved ones with long careers. We appreciate our BET Awards nomination committee, over 300 strong, for their efforts and congratulate all the nominees
Topping the list with five nominations is Beyoncé, and August Alsina follows her with four nominations. Beyoncé is nominated for Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, Best Collaboration (“Drunk In Love”), and Video of the Year twice (“Partition,” “Drunk In Love”).
The award show will air live from Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre L.A. on Sunday, June 29 at 8 p.m. EST.
