A British man who was said to be embroiled in a “family feud over his mum’s will” was fatally shot in Jamaica. According to The Scottish Sun, the fatal incident occurred four days after the deceased Michael Brown attended his mother’s funeral in the Caribbean nation.

The incident is said to have occurred in Mike Town in the wee hours of Thursday. Police said the deceased 48-year-old man was in the bedroom of a home he was constructing when gunmen ambushed him and opened fire. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Prior to his killing, Brown was allegedly embroiled in a family feud over his deceased mother’s properties. Investigators said they’ll be looking into whether his killing was in connection with the dispute.

“This is a despicable crime and we are looking at all lines of inquiry,” a police spokesperson said. “This man was from England and came over to look after his new house which he was building and to visit family. From all accounts, he was a hard-working man. We intend to bring to justice those responsible.”

A resident in the area said that land and property disputes in the Caribbean nation are many, adding that those cases don’t end well sometimes. “This young man came over from England to bury his mother and to take care of the house he was building and he will be getting buried himself,” she said. “That is so awful and sad. Coming all this way and you will not be returning.”

Brown’s killing also comes after another British national, Sean Patterson, was similarly gunned down in Jamaica. The incident also happened this month. And Deputy police commissioner Fitz Bailey labeled it as “a contract killing that emanated from Britain”.
