Girls Trip 2 will be in the West African country of Ghana for its sequel. Writer-director-producer Tracy Oliver disclosed this at the ongoing Sundance Film Festival where she is promoting the second season of her Prime Video comedy series, Harlem.

Girls Trip starred Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Tiffany Haddish. The long-awaited sequel will see the girls reunite again for a vacation together. According to Variety, Oliver said she had a “definitive ‘Girls Trip 2’ update. That it’s officially happening. I can say that.”

She continued, “No one else knows this, Will Packer (the original film’s producer) might kill me, but we’re looking to set it in Ghana.”

The cast of Girls Trip is expected to attend the famous Afrochella festival which is held in Ghana every year and attracts a lot of music stars. Girls Trip was directed by Malcolm D. Lee, produced by Packer and co-written by  Kenya Barris and Oliver.

The original film is about four ladies taking a vacation together after five years apart. They head to New Orleans to have fun at the Essence Festival. But while partying, they had to face up to their own issues. The film won several awards and grossed $140.9 million against a budget of $19 million, which was a great feat for an R-rated comedy.

Haddish also had a breakout year thanks to the 2017 film.
