The New Year couldn’t have started any better for Nigerian artiste, Burna Boy, as former U.S. First Lady, Michelle Obama lists his ‘My Money, My Baby’ as one of her favourite songs for workout sessions.
In a tweet, she wrote: “It’s about that time when New Year’s resolutions get a bit harder to stick to. To offer a little inspiration, I want to share my go-to #WorkoutPlaylist with you. These songs always seem to give me that extra boost to get through my toughest workouts. What’s on your playlist?”
The 36-song playlist features songs from a wide range of artistes, including Bruno Mars, Nipsey Hussle, Kanye West, Jay Z, Beyonce, Big Sean, Cardi B, Alicia Keys, Miguel, and Koffee.
It also features Houston-based rapper, Tobe Nwigwe who is of Nigerian descent. Born in Alief, Texas, a suburb of Houston, his song “I’m Dope” alongside David Michael Wyatt made the list.
This isn’t the first time Burna Boy has appeared in any playlist from the Obamas.
Late last year, President Obama released his top songs for the year which featured Burna Boy and Rema.
In the same year, he made it into Jay-Z’s 2019 ‘Year-End Picks’ playlist. The playlist, uploaded exclusively on TIDAL, features his song, Collateral Damage.
Apart from grammy-nominated Burna Boy, the list includes, Kanye West’s “Follow God,” Russ and Bia’s “Best on Earth,” Tyler, The Creator’s “EARFQUAKE,” DaBaby’s “SUGE,” and Jhené Aiko’s “Triggered.”

2019 was one of the most successful years for Burna Boy, aside from his grammy nomination, he has won a number of awards, locally and internationally and sold out concert venues across the globe.
His album, “African Giant” was nominated in the Best World Album category alongside Altin Gün for Gece, Bokanté & Metropole Orkest Conducted By Jules Buckley for What Heat, Nathalie Joachim With Spektral Quartet for Fanm D’Ayiti, and Angelique Kidjo for Celia.
