Carol Moseley Braun
Carol Elizabeth Moseley Braun is a lawyer, politician, diplomat, and former senator of the United States of America. She represented Illinois in the U.S. Senate from 1993 to 1999. She was a member of the Illinois House of Representatives from 1979 to 1980 and a Cook County Recorder of Deeds from 1988 to 1992. Her victory in the 1992 senatorial election made her the first African American woman elected to the U.S. Senate. She was the United States Ambassador to New Zealand and Samoa and was appointed the Chair of the United States African Development Foundation by President Joe Biden in January 2023.
