Ellen Johnson Sirleaf

She is the first female president of Liberia (2006 – 2018), Africa’s first elected female head of state, and the first female chair of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). Sirleaf is the Founder of Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Presidential Center for Women and Development, working for positive and sustainable change across Africa with a greater focus on unleashing the abundant untapped power of Africa – ‘women.’ She holds numerous positions in international organizations and received several national and international awards, including the 2011 Nobel peace prize in recognition of her efforts to onboard women into many peacekeeping processes.
