Celebrating 10 powerful Black women in politics on International Women’s Day

Every March 8, International Women’s Day is celebrated to highlight the achievements of women and the progress made to ensure gender equality. The day is set aside to reflect the importance of protecting women’s rights and empowering them to be active leaders in their communities.

Indeed, besides celebrating the stellar contributions of women, it is imperative to raise awareness about discrimination and take action to drive gender parity in various fields including politics where men continue to dominate.

Amid the discussions about a gender-equal world, here are a few of the prominent African and Black American women who have made remarkable impacts on the development and sustenance of democracy in the world.
