Africa Ignited: Exploring Ideas, Shaping Outcomes

Columbia University's 10th Annual African Economic Forum to kick-off March 1st and 2nd

New York, NY January 1, 2013 – Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business, School of International and Public Affairs, Law School, and Mailman School of Public Health jointly present the 10th Annual African Economic Forum (AEF) to be held at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business on March 1st and 2nd, 2013.

The Forum has grown from its modest beginnings to become the largest Africa-focused event at Columbia, bringing over 400 participants to campus last year. AEF has hosted a number of important scholars, policy makers, and practitioners, including: Lamido Sanusi, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, H.E. Amina S Ali, African Union Representative to the US, Danny Jordan, CEO of the 2010 FIFA World Cup Organizing Committee, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Minister of Finance for the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mark Walton, Executive Vice President of The Africa Channel, and Dr. Jian-Ye Wang, Chief Economist of the China Export-Import Bank among many other distinguished guests. The Forum comprises a variety of engaging panels covering relevant topics across the continent such as entrepreneurship, private equity, women in leadership, energy, and infrastructure.

As AEF marks a decade of successful partnerships that have brought exceptional minds together, our focus will be the realization of our discussions, the leap from ideas to outcomes. Across panels, we will highlight inspiring projects on the continent in the past decade, address challenges faced in their implementation, and solutions to address them. From the Economist to CNN, the media and the world have realized that Africa is on the move.

Themed “Africa Ignited: Exploring Ideas, Shaping Outcomes, the 10th annual African Economic Forum 10 is about embracing this momentum and sharing opportunities to dive in. The continent is stirring and the flame has long been ignited; join us in celebrating our successes and shaping our future.

Conference events will include the AEF Pre-Conference Party in February, an evening Gala, Networking Sessions, and a Career Fair in March, which will bring together some of today’s influential actors on the African continent. Panel discussions will engage participants in a wide range of topics including entrepreneurship, real estate, manufacturing, urban development and infrastructure, consumer markets, and more. Registration begins on February 1st, 2013, and space is limited. Please visit our website for the latest conference updates. We look forward to seeing you in March!
