Tortured to death
Arab employees have also been accused of torturing their maids to death. The employer from the Gulf had beaten up a maid to death and tried to claim that she had fallen. The woman, who had two female maids: an Indian and an African, had promised the Indian maid some money if she would lie to the police about the beating but she decided to tell because she had also been a victim of the torture.
The torture and daily beatings are so bad that some of these maids decide to commit suicide. In one case, Ethiopians, Matente Kebede Zeditu and Kassaye Atsegenet committed suicide in a span of a few days to escape the treatment of their employers.
