During a recent appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast, veteran comedian and actor Damon Wayans Sr. revealed that he was once romantically involved with his nephew’s ex-girlfriend.
“I was in love with her, that’s the thing,” Damon stated, per PEOPLE. Damon on a lighter note then asked the retired NFL star and host if he had “never done the Jackson 5?”, a phrase he was alluding to Jermaine Jackson marrying the ex-girlfriend of his brother Randy Jackson.
Sharpe then asked him why he chose to pursue the woman in question and Damon, 64, replied that there was no love between his nephew and his ex. He also emphasized that he became romantically involved with his nephew’s ex-girlfriend in 2001 after he and his ex-wife Lisa Thorner parted ways.

“I got divorced and I was by myself for two years,” the Major Payne star said. “And then I saw her [his nephew’s ex] and I was just like, ‘Oh my God. I’m in love.’ And then I found out my nephew had dated [her].”

Damon also clarified that he talked to his nephew before pursuing the relationship with his ex-girlfriend. His nephew had no qualms about that.
“I’m like, you know, ‘What’s up?’ and he’s like, ‘That’s you.’ And I’m like, ‘Okay, pass the Courvoisier, let’s go!’ And I went ahead and I fell in love and it was okay,” Damon revealed. “Family gatherings is awkward,” he jokingly added.
The Wayans family is a well-known Hollywood powerhouse, and they have produced and starred in several box-office hit films. In October 2024, the Wayans brothers announced their return to the Scary Movie franchise after nearly 20 years, Face2Face Africa reported.

Per Deadline, the brothers will be teaming up with Miramax & Paramount to bring the new Scary Movie to the screens. Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, and Keenen Ivory Wayans are credited for developing the Scary Movie franchise. The movie’s first two installments were written by the trio while Keenen additionally took the director’s seat. Marlon and Shawn were also co-stars in the first two movies.
