Afrobeats Giant, Burna Boy, has gone out of his way; not doing music this time but engaged in philanthropic work.

Videos and pictures appeared online on Wednesday of the Common Person singer, donating food items and interacting with people.

He is also said to have paid a visit to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, Nigeria, where paid the medical bills of some recovering patients.

Burna Boy has not confirmed or denied the reports but his followers are impressed with the gesture, which is similar to that of Davido who donated 300 million Naira (equivalent to $197,000) to orphanages in his home country.

These and other social work by Afrobeats artistes point to their readiness to impact communities beyond the music they churn out. Fans will keep an eye on what Burna Boy will say about his latest giveaway in the weeks ahead.

In April this year, Burna Boy earned a spot in TIME Magazine‘s 100 Most Influential People of 2024. He also spoke later, presenting a list of artistes in the Afrobeats space who have “impacted” his career.

He mentioned top music talents in Nigeria including Timaya, D’Banj, 2face, and Wande Coal as the “Old Gees,” he will continue to “respect” for the rest of his life.

“When we talk about Old Gees, as far as I’m concerned, these names are the only names. “This is a personal thing…we all see things differently and we’ve been through things differently so we all see life differently,” he stated.

In May, his trendy hit For My Hand featuring Ed Sheeran, was certified platinum in the United Kingdom, after it sold 600,000 digital sales units.

The seamless collaboration attracted positive reviews from listeners with its official music video generating 147 million views on YouTube at the time.

Burna Boy’s sixth studio album, Love, Damini released in 2022 contained nineteen tracks, with other guest appearances including Ladysmith Black Mambazo, J Hus, Victony, Popcaan, Blxst, and Kehlani.
