Naya Rivera, the cherished Glee actress we all love to hate, has sadly died. Reports reveal that her body was found in Lake Piru, California after an extensive search. The actress was reported missing days earlier after she went swimming with her 4-year-old son.
Rivera and her son, Josey Hollis Dorsey, went for a swim last Wednesday. Unfortunately, that was the last time anyone saw Rivera. Josey was found in the boat when authorities arrived at the spot for a check. He told them he and his mom were swimming and he has no idea what has happened to her.
According to TMZ, officials from Ventura County said a body was found on Monday and other credible sources have confirmed it is the body of the 33-year-old actress.
“A body has been found at Lake Piru this morning. The recovery is in progress. There will be a news conference at 2 pm at the lake,” Ventura County Sheriff’s Office confirmed in a tweet on Monday.
At the news conference, authorities revealed that Rivera pushed her son onto the rented boat before he saw her disappearing into the water.
“She must have mustered enough energy to get her son back on the boat, but enough to save herself,” Ventura County Sherrif Bill Ayub said at a news conference.”

Authorities believe Rivera’s death was an accident and that her body was probably trapped “in the vegetation under the lake before floating to the top”, Ayub said.
The actress was born on January 12, 1987, and is of African American, German and Puerto Rican descent. She was introduced to the cameras at an early age. She starred in TV shows such as The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Family Matters and The Royal Family as a child but her breakout role was on the hit show Glee.
She was also a model like her mother and a singer as well. In 2013, she released a single “Sorry” with Big Sean, her ex-fiancé at the time before they both ended the relationship. Rivera married Ryan Dorsey in 2014 and got divorced in 2018 and the pair shared custody of their son Josey until her untimely death.
After her disappearance on July 8, many volunteer rescuers together with her family embarked on a thorough search to find her. Rivera’s incident made Erin Jordan, a concerned local who knows there are dangerous conditions on the lake, to start a petition urging officials to “post warning signs of Lake Piru’s known dangerous conditions, which includes heavy rip currents.”
Heartfelt and emotional tributes from fans and friends have swarmed social media.
