Authorities in Pennsylvania said a 25-year-old father-to-be allegedly shot three people after he got into an argument over the transportation of gifts during a baby shower ceremony for his unborn child on Saturday.
According to The Trib, the suspect, identified as Isiah J. Hampton, was shortly arrested without incident after police responded to the scene. He has since been charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of recklessly endangering another person.
Police said the shootings stemmed from Hampton getting into a heated confrontation with a woman who asked him to transport the gifts they received at the baby shower. And the altercation escalated and became physical after the woman slapped Hampton because he had allegedly gotten abusive. Hampton reportedly shoved the woman in retaliation before three men stepped in to try and de-escalate the altercation.
But the suspect, who was on the ground at the time, opened fire, striking a 23-year-old man, a 19-year-old woman and a 16-year-old boy. One of the bullets struck the male victim’s torso while the woman was hit in the leg. The boy was also hit in the buttocks, the criminal complaint stated, per The Trib. Other people who were present at the scene eventually managed to disarm Hampton.
The suspect later left the scene in the company of the mother of his unborn child. But he was arrested soon after. All three victims were also transported to nearby medical facilities for treatment. Responding to the injuries the victims sustained, Lower Burrell police Chief John Marhefka said they were seemingly non-life-threatening.
Hampton made a court appearance on Sunday and his bail was set at $250,000. He’s currently being held at the Westmoreland County Prison.
