Former Manchester United and England soccer player Rio Ferdinand is one of the most recognizable athletes in the world. On Sunday, he tweeted with the hashtag #EndSARS and lamented the “traumatic scenes” in Nigeria.
Ferdinand has already couched the reputation of pushing for more to be done about racism in soccer. On TVs and in print media, he has made the case for sterner punishments for anti-black behaviors on soccer pitches and in stands.
