Visit to Eritrea
After successfully ending the 18 years’ stalemate, resulting from the two-year war that killed more than 80,000 people and rendered hundreds of thousands homeless, Ahmed visited Asmara, becoming the first Ethiopian leader to visit Eritrea in about 20 years.
The two countries soon resumed flights and re-established phone lines.
