Deondre Burgin, the father of former Disney Channel star Skai Jackson’s child, is back in jail after he notably missed the birth of their baby in January because he was locked up.
Per TMZ, authorities said Burgin’s April 17 arrest in Kentucky came after an outstanding misdemeanor warrant was issued from Ohio. Burgin, who goes by the moniker, Yerkky Yerkky, was nabbed at a gas station after a Taylor Mill police officer positively identified him.
His details were said to be on the National Crime Information Center database. Burgin’s bond has since been set at $25,000.
The outstanding misdemeanor warrant for Burgin’s arrest from Ohio was issued after he failed to appear in court for a March incident where he did not display a license plate on his vehicle.
Burgin’s recent arrest also came after he was sentenced to 90 days in jail in Hamilton County for parole violation. That was in January. Burgin was a juvenile when he was convicted of theft and weapon possession before he was ultimately granted that parole.
Burgin missed the birth of his and Jackson’s child as a result. In a previous interview with PEOPLE, Jackson disclosed that she and Burgin were expecting their first child.
“I’m thrilled to begin this new chapter in my life − embracing motherhood and diving into new acting projects,” Jackson said in the November 2024 interview. “My heart is so full!”
Jackson welcoming her little bundle of joy came after she was arrested following an alleged physical altercation with Burgin, Face2Face Africa reported in November 2024. Per TMZ, the 23-year-old was arrested at Universal CityWalk.
Sources told the news outlet that deputies responded to the scene after security saw the couple fighting, and Jackson is said to have repeatedly pushed her boyfriend. Sources also said that Jackson and her boyfriend were ultimately detained by security while they waited for law enforcement to respond.
Sources added that the couple claimed they did not get into any physical altercation, with Jackson also saying they were happily engaged and expecting a child, TMZ reported.
But deputies said they noticed Jackson had pushed her boyfriend when they took a look at a video. Authorities arrested Jackson for misdemeanor domestic battery and issued her a citation before she was released. She was reportedly detained for hours.
“Based on the initial investigation, it was determined Ms Jackson was the primary aggressor and was arrested for misdemeanor spousal battery,” police said at the time, per Sky News.
