Bull jumping ritual
The custom of “bull jumping” is a process that initiates a boy into manhood or adulthood. This three-day event proves that the young man has the capabilities to have a bride. He must run back and forth twice across the backs of bulls without falling to prove his worth.
Cheered by family members, especially women, he has to ensure he surmounts this challenge or stands the chance of being ridiculed. Until a prospective man jumps over the bulls, he won’t be given his bride. However, if he does, a celebration is held to end this communal event. The number of bulls varies from eight to 15.
