Grammy-nominated Eritrean-American rapper Nipsey Hussle was fatally shot multiple times on Sunday afternoon in front of his Marathon Clothing store in South Los Angeles.

Born Ermias Davidson Asghedom, the 33-year-old is survived by a daughter from a previous relationship and a son with whom he had with his girlfriend, actress Lauren London.

Riding off the buzz from his critically acclaimed and Grammy-nominated first studio album Victory Lap which was released last year, the Slauson rapper was tipped to have a stellar 2019 after being underground and independent for so long.

The son of an Eritrean immigrant and an African-American mother, Nipsey Hussle, who grew up in Crenshaw, Los Angeles always spoke avidly about his Eritrean heritage whenever the topic popped up.

Just last year, after releasing Victory Lap, he visited Eritrea with his brother and father making it his first visit to the Horn of Africa nation in 14 years.

From meeting President Isaias Afwerki to touring the capital city of Asmara as well as granting a series of interviews, Nipsey confirmed he had a very worthwhile experience.

Take a look at some photos of his trip and a video interview he had with one of the local TV stations:
