Alvionna Brewster is the driving force behind the Black Nurse Entrepreneurs (BNE) group, a community dedicated to supporting African-American nurses. Founded in 2015, BNE has grown to include over 23,000 members and provides a safe environment for creativity, collaboration, and entrepreneurial success.
In an interview with Dallas Voyage, Brewster explained, “It started with a simple social media platform where nurse entrepreneurs shared their stories of how they got started. Black nurses who were interested in entrepreneurship felt comfortable reaching out and obtaining resources that they may not have gotten elsewhere.”
Through its programs, BNE has helped thousands of Black nurses gain financial freedom and professional independence, positively impacting their communities and families. The organization empowers its members to create cost-effective solutions, provide culturally sensitive care, and improve global health outcomes by encouraging entrepreneurship.
Brewster shared with Black News, “BNE is more than a community—it’s a transformative experience. Over the past nine years, Black Nurse Entrepreneurs has redefined what it means to be a nurse, empowering professionals to achieve financial freedom, transform healthcare delivery, and build generational wealth. Some of our proudest moments happened during the pandemic, when our nurses built businesses that dramatically increased access to critical services, leading to a significant reduction in mortality rates.”
The group has successfully assisted its members in launching substantial businesses, including some that have made 6, 7, and even 8 figures. These ventures have challenged traditional healthcare delivery methods, increasing access to healthcare and lowering morbidity and mortality rates, especially among underserved populations. BNE also offers a comprehensive coaching program to equip Black nurses with essential skills and techniques for success in their entrepreneurial endeavors.
Brewster emphasized, “These milestones are just the beginning. We are determined to continue pushing boundaries, building wealth, challenging paradigms, and creating opportunities that reflect our values, protect our communities, and inspire the next generation of leaders.”
As the organization grows, BNE plans to resume in-person gatherings to strengthen community ties.
Brewster began her career as a certified nurse in 2005 and has since earned a Master’s Degree in Nursing Education. With experience in various healthcare fields, she specializes in cardiovascular disease, preventative medicine, and health promotion.
She remarked, “My ultimate goal is to help people to live out their best life, whatever that entails. I am very fortunate to be in the position I am in because it has allowed me to impact many people from different walks of life.”
