Tyler Perry Studios is launching the Dream Collective, a new initiative aimed at discovering and nurturing the next generation of filmmakers, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds.
The program will center around short film production, providing participants with hands-on training, mentorship from industry experts, and strategic career development to help them build sustainable careers, according to Deadline.
Dawn Hudson, former CEO of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and producer Nekisa Cooper will serve as advisors. Applications are set to be opened on April 17.

“For a long time, I’ve wanted to create a program where I could share what I’ve learned in this industry with others,” Perry said. “Breaking into film can be tough—when I started, Hollywood didn’t know my name or give me a shot. The Dream Collective is my way of opening doors for the next generation.”

Hudson emphasized the program’s role in making the film industry more accessible: “Film schools are expensive, and if you’re not connected, it’s easy to feel shut out. This initiative is about creating a community where diverse voices can thrive.”
Cooper added, “There’s more opportunity in film and TV than ever before, but there’s still work to do. The Dream Collective will equip emerging filmmakers with the skills, knowledge, and tools to tell their stories and build lasting careers.”
