Idris Elba To Film ‘Beasts of No Nation’ in Ghana

Idris Elba (pictured) will be visiting Ghana to shoot the upcoming film adaptation of “Beasts of No Nation” by Uzodinma Iweala.

Cary Fukunaga will direct the Red Crown production with some scenes shot in Koforidua, Takoradi, and other locations.

According to the Deadline, “The story follows the journey of a young boy, ‘Agu,’ who, when civil war engulfs his West African country, is forced to join a unit of mercenary fighters. Not only must Agu face the death of his father and the disappearance of his mother and sister, but he must also join a life of violence and brutality. Agu befriends a mute boy named ‘Strika,’ and together they face the crimes and hardships of war.”

While Elba plays the lead role of “Commander,” he will also be producing the film alongside Daniela Taplin Lundberg and Riva Marker of Red Crown.

The film will also be produced under Parliament Of Owls’ Cary Fukunaga and Primary Productions Principal Amy Kaufman. Daniel Crown and Bill Benenson are the executive producers and Red Crown is financing the film.

Considering Elba joined the cast of Disney’s live-action/CG hybrid-movie adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s “The Jungle Book,” will be shooting the upcoming thriller “Bastille Day,” and just released his first short film, “Unstoppable,” from his new production company Green Door Productions, he is quite busy. Can’t wait to see what else Elba has in the works!
